Billinger Tabs Wilkins as Assistant Coach

June 8, 2018

DENVER –University of Denver men’s golf head coach Erik Billinger announced the hiring of Brandon Wilkins on Friday. Wilkins will be the new assistant coach for the Pioneers, beginning in the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Wilkins comes from Abilene Christian, where he has been a member of the coaching staff since 2016. While with the Wildcats, he was instrumental in recruiting efforts nationwide and player development. He helped coach Garrett Glanton and Alex Clouse to All-Southland Conference awards. He also helped the team capture the 2018 Colin Montgomerie team championship. In the 2017-2018 season, the Wildcats posted seven par-or-better team rounds.

“The most impressive characteristic about Brandon is his passion,” Billinger said. “He is passionate about the game, coaching, recruiting and helping the program in anyway possible. That kind of passion is contagious and I believe Brandon is going to help this program tremendously in a lot of areas.

“Brandon is also a coach with the highest of character and integrity with the competitive goal of winning and competing the right way. Lastly, Brandon’s experience in recruiting, especially in the Texas market, is going to be invaluable. I couldn’t be more excited to work with him and have him join our Pioneer Golf Family.”

Wilkins has also had significant caddy experience on the tour, APT, and different mini-tours. He most notably caddied for Brax McCarthy in his 2017 Texas State Open win.

“I am thrilled and honored to accept this position,” Wilkins said. “After hearing Coach Billinger’s vision and passion for DU Men’s Golf, it is clear to me that the sky is the limit for the program. I can’t wait to help our student-athletes reach their full potential on and off the course.”

The former Wildcat played two years for Hall of Fame coach Vince Clark at McLennan Community College before transferring to ACU. He earned Southland Conference Commissioner Honor Roll honors as a junior and senior. His career-best finish came at the UTRGV Bronc Invitational where he finish tied for 12th.

The Denver men’s golf team returns to the links in the fall.
