Men’s Golf Adds Guetz as Assistant Coach
Former Oklahoma State assistant and player set to join team in the fall
Aug. 9, 2017
DENVER – University of Denver men’s golf head coach Erik Billinger announced Wednesday the hiring of Brian Guetz as the new assistant coach for the men’s golf program. Guetz will join the team for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Guetz, a Littleton, Colo. native, has been living in his home state for the last few years. Prior to that, he did a four-year coaching stint at Oklahoma State, where the team was ranked inside the top five in the nation during that time. Guetz also coached five All-Americans during his time with the Cowboys.
"Brian will bring a ton of high-level playing and coaching experience to DU Golf,” Billinger said. “His desire to help our guys with their individual games, and share his experiences with them will be absolutely invaluable. This is an exciting time for our program, I am thrilled to announce the addition of Brian to our coaching staff."
Guetz also played for OSU from 1993 to 1997. While on the team, he earned third-team All-America honors in 1996. The Oklahoma State standout also was honorable mention All-America and All-Big 12 the following season.
A three-time Gateway Tour winner, Guetz captured his first Canadian Tour event title back in 2006. He also was a two-time winner of the Colorado Open in 1994 and in 2008.
The newest member of the Pioneers played professionally from 1997 to 2009, competing as a member of the Nationwide Tour, Canadian Tour, Asian Tour and Gateway Tour during that stretch.
DU looks to build on the experience that Guetz brings to Billinger’s squad and make a leap in the upcoming year. The Crimson and Gold bring back several key members in Chris Korte, Jake Kelley and Isaac Petersilie – the top three scoring averages from last season. Denver will also welcome talented freshmen John Sand and Jackson Solem to the mix, with each expected to make an impact immediately.
The Pioneers open the season on Sept. 18 in Fort Collins for the first two rounds of the Ram Masters Invitational hosted by Colorado State.
