Billinger Inks McCoy for 2018-19
Incoming Highlands Ranch native set to join Denver for 2018-19 year
Nov. 10, 2017
DENVER – The University of Denver men’s golf head coach Erik Billinger announced the addition of Cal McCoy on Friday. The incoming freshman will join the Pioneers for the 2018-19 season after signing his national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career with the Pioneers.
McCoy joins DU by way of Highlands Ranch, where the incoming freshman has been a standout at Regis Jesuit High School.
“It has been great getting to know Cal and his game over the last year,” Billinger said. “Cal is a local Colorado kid and had a fantastic summer and competed nationally in the best possible events. He is an accurate player with a great short game and he has a great demeanor and attitude to be able to compete in high-pressure situations.
“Cal is going to be a great Pioneer and is a great fit for this program and I can’t wait to coach him during his collegiate career.”
McCoy is a member of three state-champion teams. He finished fourth as an individual at the state championship as a senior. The Regis standout took home the 5A Regional Individual Medalist honors at the 5A Northern Regional. He is also a two-time team captain.
The Colorado native also represented Team Colorado in the Junior America’s Cup in DuPont, Wash.
The 5-foot-10 golfer chose DU because of the academics and athletics opportunities that the school provided him as well as the great coaches and players that made it feel like it was the right place for him.
The Crimson and Gold return to the course again for the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 29.
