Griggs Set to Join Pioneers in 2018-19
Incoming Charles Page High Standout Signs National Letter of Intent
Nov. 15, 2017
DENVER - University of Denver men's golf head coach Erik Billinger announced the final addition of his 2018-19 signing class on Wednesday. Carson Griggs will join the team next year after signing his national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career with the Pioneers.
Griggs joins DU by way of Sand Springs, Okla., where the 5-foot-8 golfer has starred at Charles Page High School the last few years.
"Carson is a terrific player and great addition to our team and we couldn't be more excited that he chose to join the Pioneers," Billinger said. "He has the ability to go low, as he plays without fear and has a lot of confidence that is fun to watch. Carson played great this last summer and traveled nationally to a lot of events and gained a ton of experience.
"Carson brings a solid game to our program and will make an immediate impact."
Griggs is coming off an impressive year, which included being named the Tulsa World Male Golfer of the Year in 2017. He also was nominated for the 2017 Transamerican Jr. All-America team.
The Sand Springs, Okla. native took second place at the 6A Oklahoma State Championships this past fall. He won four tournaments his junior year and took 10th at the Jordan Spieth Championship in Dallas, Texas.
Griggs was ranked as the second-best golfer in the state of Oklahoma in 2017.
The future Pioneer chose DU because of the academics the school offered, especially the business school as well as the coaching staff and facilities provided.
The Crimson and Gold return to the course again for the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 29.
