DENVER -

The University of Denver Pioneers (15-6-6, 9-4-4-3) defeated the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, 1-0, for their fourth-consecutive win against the Bulldogs and fourth-consecutive home shutout.

Henrik Borgström's goal at 2:35 of the third period proved to be the game-winning goal as Denver earned its second shutout victory against Minnesota Duluth this season. Tanner Jaillet made 24 saves in his fifth and the Pioneers' sixth shutout of the season.

"We played the right way and we got rewarded," Denver coach Jim Montgomery said. "It's nice to be able to win games scratching and clawing, but I didn't think we were great from the 15-minute mark to the four-minute mark (in the third period)."
Denver controlled the majority of the first period, outshooting Minnesota Duluth, 10-6, and earning a pair of power-play opportunities. The best opportunity came late in the frame as Borgström slipped a pass through the slot for Troy Terry to re-direct, but the puck caromed wide of the goal off Terry's stick.

The Pioneers limited the Bulldogs to one (1) shot in the second period, but after being held to seven (7) shots through 40 minutes, Minnesota Duluth went on the attack in the third period to outshoot Denver, 17-8.

"I thought we were relentless," Montgomery said. "When we play well that's what we do to teams and when Duluth plays well that's what they did to us in the third. It's great college hockey."

Despite being faced with an onslaught of pressure in the final 20 minutes, Borgström's goal early in the frame gave the Pioneers enough of an edge. Borgström's 17th goal of the season was a shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle that sailed over the right shoulder of goalie Hunter Shepard. The sharp-angle shot hit Shephard's mask before entering the net. Terry and Ian Mitchell had assists on the play.

Denver finished 0/5 on the power play and 1/1 on the penalty kill.
