PIONEERS MOURN THE PASSING OF DOUG McKINNON
Denver's Original Captain & World War II Veteran Enjoyed a Lengthy Legal Career in Colorado

The Denver Hockey Family is saddened to learn of the recent passing of alumnus Doug McKinnon at the age of 88. McKinnon served as DU's team captain during the program's inaugural season of 1949-50 and again in 1950-51.
A defenseman, McKinnon skated in 39 games during his two seasons as a Pioneer, registering 7G-4A-11P-25PIM. Originally from Kamloops, B.C., McKinnon received a BS Degree from DU in 1952 and obtained a JD Degree in 1954. He was called to the Colorado State Bar the following year.
The World War II veteran (Royal Canadian Navy, 1945) enjoyed a long and successful legal career in Littleton and played a vital role in the establishment of a youth hockey program in the Mile High City. Preceded in death by his wife Patricia (née Collins) in 1997, McKinnon is survived by his partner Karson Kucera, his children Debby, Kevin and Mike and grandchildren Tyler and Miranda.
