Henrik Borgström Named Hobey Baker Hat Trick Finalist

March 29, 2018

Henrik Borgström has been named a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist with Ryan Donato (Harvard University) and Adam Gaudette (Northeastern), the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Committee announced on Thursday.

Each year, the Hobey Baker Award is presented to the player who best demonstrates strength of character both on and off the ice, contributes to the integrity of his team and displays outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration is given for scholastic achievement and sportsmanship. Denver has had two (2) winners in the 37-year history of the award, Will Butcher (2017) and Matt Carle (2006).

Borgström finished tied for 4th in NCAA scoring during the 2017-2018 season, leading the Pioneers with 52 points (23-29-52) and 23 goals in 41 games. In his sophomore season, the Helsinki, Finland native was the only unanimous selection for First-Team All-Conference after winning the NCHC regular-season scoring race with 33 points (14-19-33), averaging a league-leading 1.38 points per game and recording three (3) or more points five (5) conference games, tied for the most in the NCHC. The 2017 All-American and 2017 NCHC Rookie of the Year followed his 43-point freshman campaign by being named NCHC Player of the Year and NCHC Forward of the Year. He recently signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers.

The three (3) finalists were selected from the initial list of top ten candidates by the 27-member selection committee and an additional round of online fan balloting.

The 2018 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 6, 2018 from the legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, Minn., during the NCAA Frozen Four. The 38th annual announcement will be televised live on the NHL Network at 6 p.m. ET, and streamed at
