Senior Blueliner Will Butcher Was Named Denver's Team MVP for 2016-17 on Friday

The University of Denver men’s hockey team held its annual awards banquet at Magness Arena on Friday night, honoring the program’s nine graduating student-athletes and bestowing several awards upon members of the National Champion Pioneers. A complete list of winners from Friday can be found below:


Bill Masterton Award (Team MVP): Will Butcher

Dallas Gaume Award (Offensive Player of the Year): Troy Terry

Barry Sharp Award (Freshman of the Year): Henrik Borgström

“Three Stars Award” (Most Star of the Game Selections): Henrik Borgström

Murray Armstrong Award (Most Improved Player): Evan Ritt

Dr. Ralph Verploeg Award (Most Inspirational Player): Emil Romig & Evan Ritt

Dr. Ken Bredesen Award (Most Sportsmanlike Player): Colin Staub



Dr. Art Mason Memorial Award (Top Scholar-Athlete): Greg Ogard

Keith Magnuson Award (Best Defensive Player): Adam Plant & Tanner Jaillet

Bob Martin Award (Community Service): Brad Hawkinson


Pioneers alum Don Cameron, meanwhile, was named the recipient of the 2017 Daniel Ritchie Spirit Award, an award which honors an alumnus or friend of Denver Hockey who embodies DU Chancellor Emeritus Daniel Ritchie's spirit of giving back to the school – not only financially, but with time and effort. Cameron (Class of ’67) has gone on to achieve tremendous success in the business world since graduating from DU and continues to support his alma mater in a variety of capacities.
