QUICK NOTES

• This weekend marks the first meeting between Denver and Notre Dame since the Pioneers defeated the Fighting Irish, 6-1, in the NCAA Semifinals at the 2017 Frozen Four in Chicago, Ill.

• Denver enters this weekend ranked No. 1 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com polls. Notre Dame enters this weekend ranked No. 4 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 6 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com polls, respectively.

DENVER SNAPSHOT

• Denver enters its season opener with 15 returners from the 2017 National Championship winning team, including four (4) of its top five (5) scorers

• The Pioneers welcome back 71% of their point scoring and 74% of their goal scoring from the 2016-2017 season

• Defensively, Denver returns four (4) defensemen with more than 40 games of NCAA experience as well as senior goalie Tanner Jaillet, recipient of the 2017 Mike Richter Award as the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men's hockey

DENVER LAST TIME OUT

• Denver defeated the University of Lethbridge, 3-1, in an exhibition on Oct. 1

Tyson McLellan, Liam Finlay and Troy Terry scored for the Pioneers while Tanner Jaillet, Dayton Rasmussen and Devin Cooley split time in net

• The Pioneers outshot the Pronghorns, 37-31, and finished 1/3 on the power play and 6/6 on the penalty kill

DENVER UP NEXT

• Denver will host Lake Superior State University for a two-game series from Oct. 20-21

• The Pioneers will raise the 2017 National Championship banner before facing the Lakers for the third time in school history

NOTRE DAME SNAPSHOT

• Notre Dame enters the series following a two-game series sweep against the University of Alabama Huntsville

• Despite losing leading scorer Anders Bjork, Notre Dame returns seven (7) of its top eight (8) scorers and eight (8) defensemen from the 2016-2017 season. In net, the Irish will rely upon two freshmen and sophomore goalie Cale Morris who played only 20 minutes last season

• The Irish are in their first season as a member of the Big Ten Conference after playing the last four (4) seasons as a member of Hockey East

NOTRE DAME LAST TIME OUT

• The Irish swept the University of Alabama Huntsville with a 5-3 win last Friday and a 4-0 win last Saturday

• Cale Morris made 25 stops on Friday, while Dylan St. Cyr made 34 saves in the shutout on Saturday

•Jake Evans led the Irish with two (2) goals and three (3) assists. Andrew Oglevie registered two (2) goals and two (2) assists. Jordan Gross led the Notre Dame defense with one (1) goal and three (3) assists

NOTRE DAME: UP NEXT

• Notre Dame will continue its eight-game homestand with a series against Sacred Heart University from Oct. 19-20
