Denver Ranks No. 2 in Weekly Polls

DENVER -

The University of Denver Pioneers (9-3-4, NCHC 5-3-2-1) secured the No. 2 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com polls, as released by USA Hockey and USCHO.com on Monday, Dec. 11.

Denver received 451 points and three (3) of 34 first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll conducted in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) with input from coaches and members of the media from each of the six (6) Division I college hockey conferences as well as officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey. 

The Pioneers earned 51 fewer points than No. 1 St. Cloud State University (12-2-1, NCHC 7-2-1-0) and three (3) more points than No. 3 the University of Notre Dame (16-3-1, Big Ten 10-0-0). The Pioneers have occupied the top spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll for nine (9) of 11 weeks and have not ranked lower than No. 3 this season.

Four (4) NCHC schools including Denver were ranked in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll with St. Cloud State University at No. 1 (502 points), the University of North Dakota (10-5-5, 5-3-2-2) at No. 6 (344 points) and Western Michigan University (10-8-1, 6-4-0-0) at No. 12 (159 points). The University of Minnesota Duluth (8-9-2, 3–7-0-0) and the University of Nebraska Omaha (7-8-1, 2–6-0-0) were also receiving votes. The full USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll is available here.

Denver received 918 points and eight (8) of 50 first-place votes in the USCHO.com weekly poll from a group of 50 Division I college coaches and members of the media. The Pioneers collected 60 fewer points than No. 1 St. Cloud State University and 71 more points than No. 3 the University of Notre Dame. The Pioneers have occupied the top spot in the USCHO.com poll for ten of 12 weeks and have not ranked lower than No. 3 this season.


 

 

Five (5) NCHC schools including Denver were ranked in the USCHO.com poll with St. Cloud State University at No. 1 (978 points), the University of North Dakota at No. 6 (758 points), Western Michigan University at No. 12 (433 points) and the University of Minnesota Duluth at No. 17 (150 points). Colorado College (7-7-2, 3-5-2-1), Miami University (8-8-2, 3-4-1-0) and the University of Nebraska Omaha were also receiving votes. The full USCHO.com poll can be viewed here.

ALUMNI GIVING CHALLENGE

The University of Denver is holding an alumni giving challenge for the 2017-2018 season in an effort to increase student-athlete alumni participation in the Denver Athletics Annual Fund. The sport with the highest percentage of alumni participation will receive an additional $10,000 of support through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
