GREENVILLE, S.C. - The [6/5] University of Denver men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 13-8 win at Furman on Saturday at Paladin Stadium.

Sophomore Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario) continued his three-game heater with seven points off four goals and three assists. Walker now has 21 points in Denver's last three contests. Junior Colton Jackson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had four goals of his own on Saturday, and classmate Austin French (Danville, Calif.) finished with four points on two goals and two helpers.

Following his 22-for-22 performance on Sunday, senior Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.) went 23-of-24 on Saturday afternoon, finishing with 17 ground balls off those 23 faceoff wins. Baptiste now has 20+ faceoff wins in 19 of his 56 career games, including nine of Denver's last 14. On the defensive end, junior Dylan Gaines (Baltimore, Md.) led the Pioneers with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Jackson opened the scoring for Denver off Walker's first of three assists in the opening 30 minutes. After an equalizer from Finn Barry, Walker netted his 11th and 12th goals of the campaign to stretch Denver's first quarter lead to 3-1. 2017 Colorado Collegiate Box Lacrosse League MVP Chad Kreuzer pulled the home team back to within one at 3-2 to end the first quarter.

The Pioneers outscored Furman 5-1 in the second quarter, led by French's two tallies for the visitors. Jackson opened the second quarter how he did the first with a step down off a feed from Walker to make it 4-2. Junior Nate Marano (Tustin, Calif.) scored from the right alley for his third of the year, and after a Furman goal, French sandwiched goals around senior midfielder Connor Donahue's (Groton, Mass.) third of the season to give Denver an 8-3 lead at the break.

Furman opened the second half with a three goal run in the first 10 minutes out of the locker room to close the margin to two, but Denver responded with a three-goal run of its own, two to end the third quarter and one to open the scoring in the fourth. Jackson and Walker each completed their hat tricks in the final 1:42 of the third quarter, and senior Colton McCaffrey (Parker, Colo.) found the back of the net from the backside pipe to make it 11-6 on the first possession of the final quarter.

After 8:42 without a goal, Denver and Furman split the final four goals two apiece in the last 5:15 of the contest. Jackson and Walker both grabbed their fourth goals of the game in the quarter, with Walker's coming off a feed from French.

Denver went a perfect 3-for-3 on the man-up in the game, and put 25 of its 31 shots on cage.
