DENVER – The [1/1] University of Denver men’s lacrosse team suffered its first setback of the season, a 13-9 loss to [6/7] North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Tyler Pace made an impact in his first game back for the Pioneers (4-1), getting three points on one goal and two assists, while Austin French added two points on a goal and a helper. Alex Ready took the loss with six saves in 60 minutes between the pipes.
North Carolina (4-1) got four goals from Luke Goldstock and two each from Justin Anderson and Chris Cloutier, while Brian Balkam took the win with 17 saves in the game.

Goldstock was the go-to scorer for UNC as he tallied four goals in the first half as the visitors built up a 7-3 lead at halftime.
The third goal for the Pioneers came on Cannizzaro’s first of the game with 7:42 left in the second quarter, but DU couldn’t gather the momentum to trim the lead down as North Carolina got three goals from Goldstock through the remainder of the half.

The Crimson and Gold trimmed the lead to 11-8 behind a goal each from French, Connor Donahue and Walker, the latter getting his fourth hat trick of his rookie season, but North Carolina had a pair of shots from Anderson to put the lead back to five before DU got one final tally from Cannizzaro to close out the game.
