DENVER - Junior attackman Austin French (Danville, Calif.) had a career-high five goals to go with an assist, senior Joe Reid (Petaluma, Calif.) put up his first hat trick and had four points, all in the first half, and senior faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.) finished 19-of-24 with 12 ground balls from the dot to lead the [2/3] University of Denver men's lacrosse team past St. John's 15-6 on Saturday afternoon in the 27th-straight sellout at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Sophomore starting goaltender Josh Matte (Issaquah, Wash.) stopped a career-high eight shots to stay a perfect 5-0 in the first five starts of his career. Junior Alex Ready (Lancaster, Pa.) made two saves on four shots in the fourth quarter.

Senior attackman Colton McCaffrey (Parker, Colo.) distributed a career-high three assists, freshman midfielder Ted Sullivan (Tucson, Ariz.) built on his four-goal performance from a week ago with a goal and an assist and sophomore attack Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario) and junior Colton Jackson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) both chipped in a goal and two helpers for three points. Senior short-stick defensive midfielder Nick Phillips (Denver, Colo.) put in a goal and an assist in transition for a career-high two points.

On the defensive side, the two Dylans in Tewaaraton Award Watch List addition Dylan Gaines (Baltimore, Md.) and Dylan Johnson (Englewood, Colo.) caused a pair of turnovers each in the win to anchor a Denver defense that held St. John's to just one goal in the opening 30 minutes.

Reid's first two goals of the game, including one with the timer on, opened the scoring for Denver in the first quarter. Corey Haynes pulled the Johnnies back within one, but that's the closest the score would get the rest of the game as the Pioneers reeled off the game's next nine goals to go on their 18th 10-1 run or better under head coach Bill Tierney. French got a feed from Reid to send Denver into the second quarter up 3-1.

The Pioneers exploded for a 6-0 run in the second quarter with goals from Reid, senior Connor Flynn (Charlotte, N.C.), Sullivan, Jackson and two-straight to end the opening 30 minutes from French.

Denver made it a 9-0 run and an 11-1 run overall with the completion of a natural hat trick from French for his 17th goal of the season and a goal by senior defensive midfielder Zach Runberg (Centennial, Colo.) to give DU two goals in the first six minutes out of halftime. St. John's got three of the game's next four goals sandwiched around French's fifth of the day. Phillips got his goal just before the third-quarter horn to send the Pioneers into the final 15 minutes with a 13-4 lead.

Walker's first of the afternoon opened the scoring 17 seconds into the fourth quarter, and junior Nate Marano (Tustin, Calif.) gave Denver nine goal scores on the afternoon with his fifth goal of the season.

Denver moved to 24-0 all-time in BIG EAST regular season play on Saturday afternoon with the victory. Baptiste earned 15+ faceoff wins for the 44th time in his career, and moved his double-digit faceoff wins total to 62 out of 63 games.

On the defensive side, the Pioneers held their opponents to six goals or less for the third-straight game and for the fifth time this season.
