Cannizzaro has led the top-ranked Pioneers with 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists through Denver's first three games in 2015. The Maryland transfer became the first player in Denver history to have eight points in a game twice in a season (did it in his first two games). In 2015, four of Cannizzaro's 10 goals have come in a man-up situation.
Berg has eight points in the early stages of 2015, starting the season as a part of the Pioneers midfield corps. The 2014 Tewaaraton Award nominee led Denver with four goals on February 22nd in Denver's 10-5 win over Furman, the 20th hat trick of his career. Berg is currently riding a 22-game point streak, the 21st longest streak in the nation.
Players not named to the initial list have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch lists additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 19 and April 9. On April 23, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 7 and invited to the ceremony. The Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 28, 2015, at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
Denver will open a stretch against back-to-back top-5 opponents when the Pioneers take on [4/4] North Carolina on Friday at 4 p.m. ET/2 p.m. MT. Friday's clash can be seen on ESPNU. DU will then return home to take on [2/3] Notre Dame at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on March 7 at 1 p.m. MT.
