DENVER – Three-time First Team All-America selection Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.) has been named to the USILA National Team of the Week, the coaches’ association announced on Tuesday. Earlier this week, Baptiste was also named the Warrior/US Lacrosse National Player of the Week, the Baltimore Sun National Player of the Week and the AlphaLacrosse/Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week.
The Denver senior went a perfect 22-for-22 from the dot on Sunday and picked up 13 ground balls against Cleveland State at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Baptiste’s perfect day produced the second most faceoffs won without losing one in a single-game in NCAA Division I history. Sunday’s performance was the 22nd perfect game (minimum 10 faceoffs) in the NCAA DI record book. The Denville, N.J., native’s 20+ faceoff win performance is the 18th of his career, including eight in the Pioneers’ last 13. The Denver co-captain’s faceoff total is tied for the eighth most in Denver’s single-game history, giving Baptiste 11 of the top-19 faceoff win performances in Denver’s record book.
Denver dropped to sixth in the USILA Coaches’ Poll and fifth in the Maverik Media Poll on Monday. The Pioneers received a first place vote in the media poll, but finished three points behind Virginia for fourth. Albany, Maryland and Duke took the top three spots in both polls on Monday. The Pioneers are also fourth in this week’s Lacrosse Magazine Staff poll.
Earlier on Monday, Baptiste was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week. Read that full release, here.
