NEW YORK (DU/Tewaaraton) – University of Denver men’s lacrosse senior faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.), senior long stick midfielder Sean Mayle (San Carlos, Calif.) and sophomore attack Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario) have all been named to the initial Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the Tewaaraton Award Foundation announced on Thursday night.

Denver tied with Syracuse for the most players on the Watch List with three. Thursday’s list included 11 institutions with two watch list honorees.

Among the 2018 watch list returnees are 2017 finalists Marie McCool (UNC), Kylie Ohlmiller (Stony Brook), Baptiste (Denver), Connor Fields (Albany), Ben Reeves (Yale) and Pat Spencer (Loyola). View the full Watch List here.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Baptiste is facing off at a 77.1 percent clip, including back-to-back games of 20+ faceoff wins. The Denver senior is averaging over 10 ground balls per game this season, and is coming off a 22-for-22 performance from the faceoff dot that produced the second-most wins without a loss in a game in NCAA history. Baptiste became the first faceoff specialist in the history of the award to be named a Tewaaraton Award finalist, earning that honor in 2017. The Denville, N.J., native is currently third in NCAA history in career faceoff wins with 933 and fourth in career ground balls with 513.

Mayle joins Baptiste and Connor Donahue as the three captains of the 2018 Pioneers. DU’s primary long stick midfielder has taken a majority of the faceoff wings for the Pioneers in the last two years, picking up 101 ground balls and forcing 16 turnovers. Mayle has already scored twice this season for Denver and has 10 career points entering this weekend’s trip to the Carolinas with six goals and four assists. The San Carlos, Calif., product has grabbed 4+ ground balls in 12 career games.

Walker enters this weekend with 88 career points on 50 goals and 38 assists, including a freshman record 72 points as the starting lefty attack for the Pioneers in 2017. The Culver Military Academy product has 5+ points in 10 career games, and netted the first sock trick of his career in Denver’s 15-12 loss at No. 1 Duke last month. Walker has produced eight points in a game twice, once at Providence last March and two weeks ago at Duke.

The [6/5] University of Denver men’s lacrosse team, Presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, will begin a three-game road swing this weekend with two games in the Carolinas. Denver will take on Furman in Greenville Saturday at 12 p.m. ET/10 a.m. MT, before making the bus trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., to battle North Carolina Monday, March 5 at 4 p.m. ET/2 p.m. MT. The Pioneers will return home for a couple days before heading to Notre Dame March 10 at 2:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. MT.
