Pioneers move up a spot to No. 3 in all three polls; host [20/20] Providence with BIG EAST one-seed on the line Saturday at Peter Barton

NEW YORK – University of Denver attackman Connor Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Freshman attackman Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario) was also named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for his five-point performance on Saturday at St. John’s.

Connor Cannizzaro, Denver, Sr., A (Cazenovia, N.Y.)
The senior attacker had a six-point day with five goals and one assist to lead Denver to a 18-12 win at St. John’s, clinching a BIG EAST league berth for the fourth-straight year and a 3-0 record so far this season in conference play. Cannizzaro took just seven shots and also caused a turnover. He extended the nation’s longest active point streak to 52 games. He has marked 208 career points at Denver, third in the Pioneers record book. Cannizzaro’s five-goal effort was his fifth hat trick of 2017.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Ethan Walker, Denver, Fr., A (Peterborough, Ontario)
Walker had five points with two goals and three assists in the 18-12 win at St. John’s. He has had five or more points in six games during his rookie season, including in each of his last four.
Denver moved up a spot in the coaches’ and media polls, currently sitting third in both. The Pioneers also jumped to No. 3 in the Lacrosse Magazine poll, while currently sitting seventh in the latest RPI. Prior to last weekend’s game, the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Selection Committee released their updated rankings, a chart that put the Pioneers at No. 2.
A win on Saturday against [20/20] Providence would clinch the No. 1 seed for Denver in the 2017 BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championships, presented by Jeep.
UP NEXT: [3/3] Denver men’s lacrosse, Presented By Your Hometown Toyota Stores, will close out its home regular season schedule on April 22 as the Pioneers welcome Providence to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Saturday's faceoff is set for 1:30 p.m. MT, and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network and ESPN Denver 1600.
