INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Denver men's lacrosse team, Presented by your Hometown Toyota Stores, will open its 2018 NCAA Tournament with a trip to seventh-seeded Notre Dame on Sunday. Faceoff is set for 2:15 p.m. ET/12:15 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPNU. The winner of the Denver and Notre Dame match-up will take on the winner of second-seeded Albany and Richmond in Hofstra on May 19.

Tickets for the first round match-up are on sale now through Notre Dame's box office.

The Pioneers are 13-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, but are 0-3 in road games in the first round of the postseason. In his 34th year overall and his ninth season at Denver, head coach Bill Tierney is 43-19 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 12-4 in the first round.

This NCAA draw snaps a streak of five-straight years with home games for the Pioneers, who were one of four programs to enter the season with five-straight home first round match-ups. The Pioneers have reached Championship Weekend in five of the previous seven NCAA Tournaments.

Denver is one of five programs to qualify for the NCAA Tournament every year since 2010 (Duke, Maryland, Notre Dame, Syracuse).

The Pioneers are 9-13 (2-7 in South Bend) in Denver’s Division I history against the Irish, including a 6-5 mark in nine years under Tierney. Prior to Denver’s 11-9 regular season loss in South Bend on March 10, Denver had won six-straight in the series, including an 11-10 overtime win in the 2015 National Semifinals and a 16-4 win in the 2017 NCAA Quarterfinals. In the last nine meetings, five have gone to overtime, and seven of the last 10 match-ups have been decided by one goal.

A Division I series that started with 11-straight Great Western Lacrosse League conference games has seen two of the western-most teams meet every year since 1999, exchanging one-for-one home and away contracts most of the series, and neutral site match-ups in the other contests.
