INDIANAPOLIS - The fifth-seeded University of Denver men's lacrosse team, Presented by your Hometown Toyota Stores, will open its 2017 NCAA Tournament against Air Force on Saturday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPNU. The winner of the Denver and Air Force match-up will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Notre Dame and Marquette in Hofstra on May 20.

The Pioneers are 11-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 4-1 at Peter Barton. In his 33rd year overall and his eighth season at Denver, head coach Bill Tierney is 41-18 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 11-4 in the first round.

This is the fifth-straight year that the Pioneers have hosted the NCAA Men's Lacrosse First Round and the sixth time in program history. Denver is one of four programs to host a first round game in each of the last five seasons (Syracuse, Maryland, Notre Dame).

Denver is 18-2 in its Division I history against the Falcons, winning the last nine games in the series. This will be the first meeting between the old ECAC and GWLL rivals in the NCAA Tournament, and just the fifth matchup in the month of May (3-1). Denver won the February 11, 2017, match-up by a count of 14-6 at Peter Barton, led by a six-point day from 2016 Tewaaraton Award Finalist Connor Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and a 15-of-18 stint at the dot for junior 2017 Tewaaraton Nominee Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.).
