DENVER – University of Denver head coach Bill Tierney has announced that seniors Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.), Connor Donahue (Groton, Mass.) and Sean Mayle (San Carlos, Calif.) have been named captains for the 2018 season.

A three-time first team All-American, Baptiste heads into his second year as a captain for the Pioneers, joining 2017 MLL Draftees Connor Cannizzaro and Christian Burgdorf last spring.

“We are very excited that Trevor, Connor and Sean will lead the 2018 Pioneers,” Tierney said. “Our staff is equally thrilled that their teammates have chosen them, especially in light of how many worthwhile classmates could have been elected. This class has been instrumental in our recent success and with these three young men taking the lead, we expect another great season in 2018.”

Baptiste was Denver’s third Tewaaraton Award Finalist in the last three years in 2017, finishing first in faceoff win percentage (.744 – 4th best in NCAA history), second in faceoffs won (297 – 7th most in NCAA history) and second in ground balls per game (10.47 – 10th in NCAA history). Denver’s faceoff specialist enters into his final campaign with the Crimson and Gold third in NCAA history in career faceoff wins and fifth in career ground balls.

Donahue will take on a leadership role in the Denver offensive after his All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 2017. The Denver senior played and started in all 17 games in the midfield a year ago, putting up 26 points on 11 goals and 15 assists. In his career, Donahue has made 43 appearances, starting 28 of them and tallying 50 career points with 25 goals and 25 helpers.

Mayle is a two-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection, earning the honor as the conference’s top long stick midfielder each of the last two seasons. In his career, Mayle has made 44 appearances on the defensive end of the field for Denver, but tallied six points a year ago on three goals and three assists (eight points in his career). In 2017, Mayle worked the wings of Baptiste’s faceoffs, picking up 38 ground balls and forcing eight caused turnovers last season.
