Denver Announces Winter Box Lacrosse Training for 2017

Sept. 21, 2017

USBOXLA | Denver Athletics Ticket Office | Pioneer Movement

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse program has announced three USBOXLA Winter Training Programs scheduled for this winter, all running from November 5 to December 17 at the APEX Field House in Arvada.

“These are going to be three great opportunities to get youth involved with the box lacrosse game that Canadians have always had growing up ,” USBOXLA founder and Denver men’s lacrosse associate head coach Matt Brown said. “This will not only help develop box skills, but develop skills that can be used in players’ outdoor games as well. With the development of the Colorado Collegiate Box Lacrosse League this past summer, and the growth of USBOXLA across the country, the movement that we talked about when we started this years ago is here, and it’s booming.”

2017 DU PIONEERS WINTER BOX TRAINING PROGRAM Session 1

November 5th- December 17th, 2017

The DU Pioneers are offering box lacrosse training this winter for players of all age levels. Box Lacrosse is the best way for young players to learn how to play the game. The Canadians grew up playing mostly Box Lacrosse and it shows through their skill set on the traditional field of play. If you are dedicated to accelerating your game and learning excellent techniques and drills to improve your individual skills, then join us at the APEX FIELD HOUSE which has two full sized rinks with sport turf and is perfect for our training sessions during the winter season. There are fewer players on the box floor, so players receive more touches with the ball; the walls keep the ball in play which naturally increases the tempo of the game; players develop their stick skills at an accelerated rate by playing in tighter spaces; and it is fun to play!

DU Pioneers Box Lacrosse Programs and Denver Elite Box Teams are inaugural members of the United States Box Lacrosse Associate (USBOXLA). All participants need to have a USBOXLA membership. LXTC Box Programs are the only organization in Colorado that allows players to play true box lacrosse.
Since 2010, the US Box Lacrosse Association (USBOXLA) and its members have changed the way the sport is played in the United States. More youth – 14,000+ kids are USBOXLA members right now – are playing real box lacrosse in the US than ever before. This year, the evolution of box lacrosse in the country continues.

2017 DU PIONEERS "TINY TYKES" LEARN TO PLAY LACROSSE SESSION 1

November 5th- December 17th, 2017

The Pioneers are now offering a Learn To Play lacrosse program for young players!  Beginning players can receive a top-notch introduction to the game from the best in the business. Each week, aspiring lacrosse players will learn the fundamental skills and rules of lacrosse in the box environment, which is highly conducive to rapid player growth.  Because the ball stays in bounds in the box arena, players will benefit from additional touches which promote faster development of the hand-eye coordination necessary in lacrosse.

We will play with "pinkies" (soft lacrosse balls) and there will be no physical contact.   Boys and girls are encouraged to participate-- all players must have lacrosse stick, boys lacrosse gloves, and boys lacrosse helmet (see below).

Dates: SUNDAYS ONLY: November 5th, 12th, 19th; December 3rd, 10th, 17th.

DENVER PRIDE GIRLS BOX LACROSSE TRAINING SESSIONS

November 5th- December 17th

Denver Pride is the sister program to our Denver Elite boys box program.  The program launched this past year and was highly successful!  Our girls teams competed during the summer months in Canada and at the USBOXLA Nationals tournament, coming away with two gold medals and one silver medal!

In November & December we will have a six week training session, open to PeeWee and Bantam aged players.

The box game, along with our coaching experts, truly enhances one’s overall skill and knowledge of lacrosse. The constant action, and the requirement to play both offense and defense, creates an exciting and fun-filled atmosphere. Our goal is for our players to get better every practice and every game and enjoy doing it.  Safety will always be our number one priority. The box game is much safer than field lacrosse when coached correctly. As the girls’ game continues to grow nationally, we, the Denver Lacrosse community, need to separate ourselves from the rest to give our girls as many advantages as possible. It’s the goal of our Denver Pride box program to succeed in this mission.

DU Pioneers Box Lacrosse Programs and Denver Elite/ Denver Pride Box Teams are inaugural members of the United States Box Lacrosse Associate (USBOXLA). All participants need to have a USBOXLA membership. LXTC Box Programs are the only organization in Colorado that allows players to play true box lacrosse.
