After a fairly balanced first half in created chances that saw redshirt-junior Nick Gardner (Marvin, N.C.) come up with two big saves, and junior striker Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) force Furman goalkeeper Ben Hale into two saves as well, Denver controlled proceedings in the second 45 minutes. The Pioneers had a 5-1 edge in shots in the second half and took three of the second half’s four corner kicks. Hale came up with another two saves to force the match into extra time.
