Underwood and Gardner Earn Summit League Weekly Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – Senior co-captain Alex Underwood (Winnetka, Ill.) has been named Summit League Offensive Player of the Week and redshirt-junior goalkeeper Nick Gardner (Marvin, N.C.) has been named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The award is the first of the career for both players.

Underwood scored the lone goal in Denver’s 1-0 win over Western Illinois to close out a perfect league regular season campaign for the Pioneers. Saturday’s goal was the third of the season for the Denver winger, and the 11th of his career.

Gardner made a season-high five saves in the win to wrap-up the No. 1 seed in this weekend’s Summit League Men’s Soccer Championship. The shutout was Gardner’s sixth of the season and the 21st of his career.

UP NEXT: The Pioneers head to Omaha this weekend for the aforementioned Summit League Tournament. No. 1 Denver will take on No. 4 Eastern Illinois in the first semifinal, set to kickoff at 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT. The winner will take on the winner of No. 2 Western Illinois and No. 3 Omaha on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT.
