Denver Falls to BYU, 4-2

DENVER -

The University of Denver Pioneers (3-4, 1-1) fell 4-2 to BYU on Saturday at Life Time Fitness in Denver, Colo.

BYU opened competition with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts, then proceeded to win three singles matches to solidify its victory.

Jesse Ruder-Hook and Eric Morris each won their singles matches. Ruder-Hook emerged with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles and Morris clinched a 5-7 (12-10), 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles. Ruder-Hook’s win came in his first singles match of the season. Ignatius Castelino was leading at No. 5 singles, 5-7, 7-5, 5-4, when the match was left unfinished.

Denver’s match on Feb. 24 against Nebraska has been canceled.

The University of Denver is holding an alumni giving challenge for the 2017-2018 season in an effort to increase student-athlete alumni participation in the Denver Athletics Annual Fund. The sport with the highest percentage of alumni participation will receive an additional $10,000 of support through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
