Denver Drops No. 43 Utah State, 4-3

March 5, 2018

The University of Denver Pioneers (5-5, 2-1) defeated the No. 43 Utah State Aggies, 4-3, on Monday at Life Time Fitness.

Jorge Nunez and Wyatt Lovera combined to open the day with a convincing 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. After the Pioneers dropped the match at No. 2 doubles, Jesse Ruder-Hook and Matt Summers played for the team point on the No. 1 court and emerged with a 6-4 victory.

"We played a really good match and I'm really happy for these guys," Denver coach Ricardo Rubio said. "We've been battling all year long, but I saw signs that this team has something special and today it showed. Utah State is a pretty good team and for us to play well is a good sign for this team. I'm looking forward to what's coming next."

Mattia Ros earned the first singles victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1. Pedro Fernandez Del Valle followed suit with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6, then Ruder-Hook sealed the team win with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

The Pioneers are set to return to the court against Weber State on March 10 at Life Time Fitness. The match is set for 1 p.m. MT.
