DU Notches Six Wins During Day Two of the Lobo Invitational

Sept. 30, 2017

Albuquerque, N.M. – In the second day of the Lobo Invitational on Saturday, the Pioneer men’s tennis team battled four different teams en route to six wins on the day.

DU played matches against host New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona and Air Force as the squad earned four wins in singles action and two in doubles.

The pairing of Jesse Ruder-Hook and Pedro Fernandez Del Valle got the first doubles win with a 6-3 score over NAU’s Chris Steele and Felix Schumann. The other doubles win came from Ignatius Castelino and Aaron Diemer, as the duo forced Justin Bac and Harun Ajanovic to put up a goose egg, 6-0.

In singles play, Del Valle fought for a 6-3, 6-2 win against the Lobos’ Sean Baklini. Sophomore Sean Huynh also took out New Mexico’s Michael Tran in an exciting three-setter, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Wyatt Lovera earned a singles win later in the day against New Mexico State’s Stijin DeHaan, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 for the second Denver three-set win. Huynh then closed the day out for the Crimson and Gold by picked up another three-set dub, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 over the Aggies’ Luis Flores.

The Pioneers complete the Lobo Invitational tomorrow then will prepare for the ITA Regional in October.
