Oct. 1, 2017

ALBUQUERQUE – When the dust settled on the final day of the Lobo Invitational on Sunday, three Pioneers claimed top spots in their flights.

Jesse Ruder-Hook, Sean Huynh and Aaron Diemer all earned top-three finishes in singles play as half of the DU representatives took home top spots.

“I thought these six guys did a good job this weekend,” said associate head coach Drew Eberly. “Hopefully our guys will take confidence from their play this weekend moving forward. These next two weeks of practice will be very important for our team leading up to Regionals.

Huynh, a native of Toronto, Canada earned first place in his flight, going undefeated. Ruder-Hook brought a second place finish in his flight back to the Mile High City. Finally, the freshman, Diemer took home third place in his flight.

On the final day of play, the Crimson and Gold went undefeated in doubles play. Ruder-Hook and his partner Pedro Fernandez Del Valle beat-out Abilene Christian’s Niko Moceanu and Henry Adams, 6-3 to close out the weekend.

Huynh and Wyatt Lovera earned a 7-6 win over ACU’s Cole Lawson and Brad Gleason, earning Huynh his sixth win of the invitational.

Finally, Diemer and his tandem partner Ignatius Castelino scored a win over the Wildcats’ Joaquin Delgado and Austin Gula, 6-1.

DU will now prepare for the ITA Regional in Provo, Utah from Oct. 18-21.
