Denver Adds Oklahoma Transfer James Davis

June 12, 2018

The Denver Pioneers have added Oklahoma transfer James Davis for the 2018-2019 season, the team announced on Tuesday.

Davis recently completed his freshman year with the No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners where he compiled a 3-1 record at No. 6 singles and a 12-7 doubles mark (2-0 at No. 2, 10-7 at No. 3) during the spring season. Among Davis' singles victories included a 6-4 win against Drake's doubles tandem of Tom Hands and Ben Clark.  In the fall, the Barnstaple, England native registered an 8-5 singles mark and made a run to the Round of 32 at the ITA Central Regional Championships.

"We are very excited to have James join our team," Denver coach Ricardo Rubio said. "He brings a level of experience from his junior career that will help our team tremendously right away. He is a really hard worker, good student and is the type of person and athlete that fits perfectly in our team culture at Denver."

Prior to joining the Sooners, Davis received recognition as the British Winter U18 National Champion, the top U16 player in the country and the British U16 National Champion. In doubles play, Davis won the title at the 2015 Malahide Java Republic ITF U18 event in Belfast, Ireland and was crowned doubles champion at the 2015 Nike Junior International Queenswood. Davis has made two main draw appearances on the ITF Pro Circuit and was the youngest-ever runner-up of a British men's tour event at 15 years old.

Davis is immediately eligible to play for the Pioneers.
