MATT SUMMERS WINS DOUBLES TITLE AT PRESTIGIOUS U.K. TOURNAMENT

Incoming University of Denver freshman Matt Summers captured the doubles crown at the 2017 Nike Junior National Tennis Championships in England on Wednesday, defeating Team Okonkwo/Wilson with partner Max Stewart at the Nottingham Tennis Centre in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) in the championship match of the Under-18 Boys Division. Summers also made it to Round 3 of the singles draw.

Recognized as the pinnacle of the summer domestic calendar, the Nike Junior National Tennis Championships showcases England’s top junior talent. The tournament has been in existence since the 1960s, with the likes of John Lloyd, Sue Barker, Jo Durie, Annabel Croft, Mark Petchey, Tim Henman and Fed Cup captain Anne Keothovang all featuring in the illustrious list of former champions alongside contemporary stars such  Andy Murray, Kyle Edmund and Heather Watson.
