Denver Basketball Hold Annual Fan Jam

Oct. 18, 2017

DENVER– The University of Denver men’s and women’s basketball teams hosted their annual Fan Jam event on Wednesday evening in Magness Arena. The event serves as a tipoff to the 2017-18 season for fans, alumni and supporters.

Attendees were treated to a three-point contest between the two squads, a dunk contest, a dance-off  and a half-court shot challenge, where one student got the chance to make $10,000 with one shot.

The men’s team won the three-ball contest, as they were led by Jake Pemberton, Thomas Neff, Joe Rosga and a fan who tallied 23 threes. Meanwhile, from the women’s side of Lauren Loven, Briana Johnson, Samantha Romanowski and a fan combined for 20 3s.

One crowd-favorite event of the night was the dunk contest. This year, Elvin Rodriguez, Jake Krafka, and Ade Murkey participated in the aerial action. Though there were many high-flying dunks, the freshman Rodriguez took home the crown with a self-lob, 180 jam.

After fans were treated to the Denver Dancers and held a dance-off of their own, one lucky student was given the chance to win $10,000 with a single half-court shot. However, the lucky fan fell just short as his shot rimmed out.

At the end of the night, fans were given the opportunity to meet the players and coaches, while getting autographs.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will return to Magness on Nov. 12, as the women take on Northern Colorado and the men take on UC-Irvine.
