24th-Ranked Pioneers Shuffle to 4th Through Round 2 of Maryb S. Kauth Invitational

Oct. 23, 2017

SAN ANTONIO – As the second day of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational came to a close on Monday, the No. 24 University of Denver women’s golf team scored an 8-under 280 in the second round of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational. DU’s great round propelled it into a tie for fourth with Houston through two days in the 14-team field.

The lineup of Mary Weinstein, Jessica Dreesbeimdieke, Camille Enright, Sophie Newlove and Lauren Whyte returned to the course for Interim head coach Kolton Lapa.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the girls today,” Lapa said. “For them to bounce back and improve by 17 shots is just what this team is made of. I am excited for tomorrow and I know the girls can go low out here.”

After a rough outing yesterday, Dreesbeimdieke stepped up for the Pioneers and was one of three DU golfers to shoot three-under for a score of 69, skipping her way up to 28th and sits at 3-over-par.

Whyte, a Scotland native, shot 2-under on the back nine and 1-under on the front nine for a combined 3-under on the day.

The final Crimson and Gold representative shooting 3-under was Weinstein, who followed suit with Whyte on shooting 1-under on the front and 2-under on the back. Weinstein and Whyte sit tied for ninth in the tournament.

Newlove tallied 1-over for a 73 on the day. The junior is currently tied for 21st place.

Enright struggled to get things going, shooting a combined 7-over through the 18 holes, putting her in 66th.

“Lauren, Mary, Jess all had amazing rounds and I am excited to see Camille and Sophie do the same tomorrow,” added Lapa. “It is going to be another amazing day to be a Pioneer and I am proud of this team so far, but we have one more round to show what we are made of.”

The third and final round is set for Tuesday.
