Women's Golf Tabbed as Preseason Favorite in Summit League

Jan. 20, 2017

SUMMIT LEAGUE RELEASE

ELMHURST, Ill.
– The University of Denver women’s golf team was tabbed as the Summit League preseason favorite in a release by the league on Friday. The Pioneers are the current defending league champions and seeking a fourth consecutive league championship this spring.

“It is an honor to be cited as the preseason number one team in our league,” head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. “Our ladies have worked extremely hard to improve this fall season and we are even more determined this spring season. We have great depth this year and teammates who push each other every single day in the weight room, practice facility and on the course.

“We look forward to a competitive spring schedule that will prepare us for the league championship and the postseason,” Kuhle added. “I’m extremely excited to see how far this team can push themselves to reach their maximum potential and perform at the highest level.”

DU is coming off a strong fall season that saw two second-place finishes in four tournaments. Denver closed out the fall portion of the 2016-17 year ranked 49th in the final fall rankings from Golfstat.

The Pioneers received eight of the nine first-place votes from the league. South Dakota State was selected as second and Oral Roberts rounds out the top three.

DU has won four straight league/conference titles under the leadership of Kuhle.

Denver opens the spring portion of its schedule with a dual meet at Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. on Jan. 29.
