Women's Golf Opens Year with Dick McGuire Invitational

Sept. 8, 2017

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s golf team heads off to Albuquerque, N.M. to open the fall portion of its 2017-18 year with the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The two-day event kicks off on Monday.

The 18-team field features seven teams that finished in the top 25 of last season’s Golfstat final rankings, highlighted by Pac-12 powerhouse Stanford.

Interim head coach Kolton Lapa heads into his first tournament as leader of the Pioneers. Lapa will go with the five-player lineup of Jessica Dreesbeimdieke, Lauren Whyte, Sophie Newlove, Mary Weinstein and Camille Enright.

Maggie Cowart and Sonya Knebel each will compete as individuals.

Dreesbeimdieke is coming off three top-10 finishes last season. Whyte was a second-team All-Summit League selection and Newlove locked up one Summit League Women’s Golfer of the Week honor in 2016-17.

The tournament will start early Monday morning with rounds one and two being played. The final 18 holes will be held on Tuesday.
