Newlove Captures #SummitGF Golfer of the Month Honors

Nov. 1, 2017

ELMHURST, Ill. – University of Denver junior women’s golfer Sophie Newlove was recognized for her outstanding play in the month of October on Wednesday. The England native was named the Summit League Women’s Golfer of the Month in a release by the league.

Newlove was a big part in the successful month for the Pioneers, who won their hosted tournament, the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate. The junior posted a 7-under in that event, good for a tie for fourth place.

“Another well-deserved honor coming in for the Pioneers and with Sophie,” head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. “She had an incredible fall season and her score counted every single round this fall. Her rounds at our home event and UTSA were solid and consistent and helped the team an incredible amount to earn our second victory and top-20 ranking.

“Sophie has grown and matured a lot as a person and golfer, and she is continuing to gain confidence. She's a competitor and has worked hard on her game to get to this level and become a top-100 player in college women's golf. This is very well-deserved and a testament to the work she's put in.”

Newlove capped off her fall with a 15th-place finish at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, firing a 2-over in her 54 holes, helping guide DU to fourth at the tournament.

Denver returns the course for the dual with defending national champion Arizona State on Jan. 28.
