Jan. 15, 2018

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team improved its national ranking this week, coming in at No. 7 in the Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday.

Denver also holds team rankings inside the top five on three events. DU is tied for No. 2 in the nation on beam with a 49.225 average, which is the highest the program has ever been ranked on the event. The Pioneers are also No. 4 on vault (49.225) and tied for No. 4 on floor (49.300).

DU improved its scores on all four events and overall as a team during Sunday’s 196.800 performance in the team’s home opener against Air Force.

As was the case last week, Denver has four student-athletes who hold individual national rankings. Sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) is ranked on four events: tied for No. 2 on vault (9.912), tied for No. 6 on beam (9.900), tied for No. 15 in the all-around (39.275) and tied for No. 20 on floor (9.875).

Junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) is up to No. 5 on beam (9.912) following her 9.950 during Sunday’s meet, which ties the fifth-highest score in program history on the event.

Senior Nikole Addison (Fort Myers, Fla.) returns to the top 10 on floor, tying for No. 10 this week with a 9.900 average.

Freshman Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) joins Karr in the all-around rankings at No. 12 (39.337).

The Road to Nationals rankings are released every Monday throughout the season and are determined by average score for the first half of the season. Beginning in mid-February, rankings will be calculated by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).

Denver next competes on Friday, January 19, with a trip to No. 8 Boise State for a quad meet with Illinois-Chicago and Seattle Pacific. The meet is set for a 7:00 p.m. MT start.
