Schou Wins Second Straight Big 12 Award

Jan. 16, 2018

DENVER – University of Denver junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) was named the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Schou tied the fifth-highest beam score in program history on Sunday and set a new career high with her 9.950 performance. She won the event title—the second of her career—while securing a team score of 49.325 on the event, which ties the program’s fifth-best mark and was the highest beam score in the Big 12 Conference this week. In this week’s national rankings, she moved up to No. 5 on beam (9.912 average).

On floor, Schou led off a five-up, five-count rotation for Denver, improving her score by nearly a full tenth from the season opener. With the help of her score, DU posted a 49.450 on floor, which was also the top score in the conference this week.

This is Schou’s second career weekly award from the Big 12 Conference following her Event Specialist honor last week. It brings Denver’s total to four awards this year.

No. 7 DU’s next meet comes this Friday, January 19, in a top-10 match-up at No. 8 Boise State. Illinois-Chicago and Seattle Pacific will also compete.
