DU Up Two Spots to No. 11 Nationally

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team improved its national ranking in the Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday, moving up two spots to No. 11.

Denver is coming off a 196.675 win over Utah State in front of a standing room-only crowd on Saturday, which improved the team’s average score to 196.075 after four weeks of competition.

On each vault, beam and floor, DU is ranked inside the top 10, all three either No. 8 outright or in a tie. DU has had only five vaulters for the entire season thus far and currently has a 49.125 average to hold the No. 8 spot this week. Similarly, Denver has competed with only five gymnasts on floor for the last three weeks and is tied for No. 8 in the nation (49.150). On beam, DU is also No. 8 overall (49.119).

Sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) moved nine spots in the all-around up to No. 16 (39.306). Additionally, she is tied for No. 17 on beam (9.875) and tied for No. 20 on floor (9.881).

Freshman Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) is up to No. 12 in the all-around rankings, holding a 39.387 average. She is also tied for No. 11 on vault (9.881).

Junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) continues to hold a national ranking on beam coming in tied for No. 22 this week with a 9.869 average.

The Road to Nationals rankings are released every Monday throughout the season and are determined by average score for the first half of the season. Beginning in mid-February, rankings will be calculated by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).

Denver returns to Hamilton Gymnasium this Saturday, February 3, at 6 p.m. for a quad meet against No. 18 BYU, Bowling Green and Ball State.
