Feb. 5, 2018

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team holds the No. 12 spot in Monday’s Road to Nationals rankings after improving its season average to 196.210.

Denver posted its second-highest team score this season on Saturday (196.750) to top then-No. 18 BYU, Bowling Green and Ball State in front of the largest-ever Hamilton Gymnasium crowd in program history.

For the second consecutive week, DU is also ranked inside the top 10 on three events. The Pioneers moved up two spots to No. 6 on vault (49.155) and are tied for No. 6 on beam (49.170). DU is again ranked No. 8 on floor (49.190).

Freshman Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) broke into the top 10 in the all-around for the first time in her career, holding the No. 9 spot with a 39.405 average. She is also tied for No. 12 on vault (9.875) and tied for No. 19 on floor (9.885).

Sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) moved up into a tie for No. 15 in the all-around (39.370), No. 13 on beam (9.885) and tied for No. 21 on floor (9.880).

Two more Pioneers are ranked in the top 25 on beam this week. Junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) is tied for No. 15 (9.875), and freshman Mia Sundstrom (Boulder, Colo.) is nationally-ranked for the first time in her career, coming in tied for No. 23 (9.865).

The Road to Nationals rankings are released every Monday throughout the season and are determined by average score for the first half of the season. Beginning in mid-February, rankings will be calculated by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).

Denver wraps up its three-meet home stand this Saturday, February 10, against No. 21 George Washington and Big 12 team West Virginia. The meet is set for 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
