Denver Returns to Top 10 Nationally

Feb. 12, 2018

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team improved its national ranking by two spots, moving up to No. 10 in the Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday.

DU increased its average team score to 196.296 following Saturday’s 196.725 against George Washington and West Virginia.

For the third straight week, DU also holds top-10 rankings on three events, including on two (vault and floor) in which Denver has competed with only five gymnasts in every meet but one this season. DU is No. 6 on vault (49.171), No. 7 on beam (49.154) and No. 8 on floor (49.196).

Sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) returned to the top 10 in the all-around this week, coming in at No. 9 (39.408). She is also just outside the top 10 on beam at No. 11 (9.883) and is tied for No. 16 on floor (9.888).

Freshman Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) makes it two Denver student-athletes in the top 10 in the all-around, sitting at No. 10 with a 39.405 average. She adds a tie for No. 13 on vault (9.875), a tie for No. 20 on floor (9.885) and a tie for No. 23 on bars (9.855).

Two more Pioneers are ranked on beam as well: junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) tied for No. 14 (9.875) and freshman Mia Sundstrom (Boulder, Colo.) tied for No. 22 (9.863).

The Road to Nationals rankings are released every Monday throughout the season and are determined by average score for the first half of the season. Beginning the week of February 26, rankings will be calculated by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).

For the second time in three weeks, Denver competes against No. 19 BYU, traveling to Provo, Utah, on Friday, February 16, along with Southern Utah. The meet is set for a 7 p.m. MT start.
