Karr Named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week

Feb. 12, 2018

DENVER – University of Denver sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) was named the Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Karr won her fourth all-around title of the season on Saturday with a 39.600. She also captured at least a share of three of the four event titles: vault, beam and floor. Her marks on vault (9.925) and floor (9.925) match her season highs, and her all-around score was only .025 off her season best.

Denver competed with only five gymnasts on vault and floor, requiring Karr to hit her routines so that DU would not have to count a fall on either event. Her 9.875 also prevented Denver from counting a fall on beam.

This week, Karr is ranked No. 9 in the nation in the all-around, is No. 11 on beam and is tied for No. 16 on floor.

DU finished with a 196.725 on Saturday to top George Washington and West Virginia in front the team’s third-consecutive sold-out meet in Hamilton Gymnasium.

This is Karr’s second Big 12 Gymnast of the Week award this season—doing so the week of January 8 as well—and is the fifth weekly conference award of her career.

The No. 10-ranked Pioneers travel to No. 19 BYU with Southern Utah for their next meet on Friday, February 16, at 7 p.m. MT.
