Karr Wins Second Consecutive Big 12 Award

DENVER – University of Denver sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) was named the Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced on Monday.

Karr tallied the second highest all-around score in program history on Friday at BYU with a career-best 39.750. Additionally, she set a new career high on beam (9.950), which ties the program’s fifth-highest score, and her near-perfect 9.975 on vault matches the seventh-highest score in school history.

In addition to her all-around title, she captured wins on vault, bars and beam. She now owns 20 titles this season, bringing her career total to 43, which is the eighth most in program history.

In this week’s national rankings, Karr holds the No. 6 spot on beam, No. 9 in the all-around, No. 17 on floor and No. 19 on vault.

Denver posted its highest away score of the season at BYU on Friday with a 195.975 while tying the sixth-best bars score in program history (49.350).

Karr has earned Big 12 Gymnast of the Week honors three times this season, also doing so the weeks of January 8 and February 12. She now owns six career weekly conference awards.

No. 12 Denver travels to Toledo, Ohio, for the Elevate the Stage meet on Friday, February 23, with No. 6 Michigan, Utah State and Bowling Green. The meet is set for a 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. MT start.
