DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team maintained its No. 12 ranking in Monday’s Road to Nationals Rankings.
This is the first week that rankings are determined by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). RQS is calculated with the team’s six highest scores of the season, at least three of which must be from away meets. The high score is dropped, and the remaining five scores are averaged.
196.800 – Home
196.750 – Home
196.725 – Home
196.575 – Away
195.975 – Away
195.775 – Away
Denver improved its RQS with the team’s highest road score of the season (196.575) in tying with then-No. 6 Michigan at Friday’s Elevate the Stage meet. DU’s RQS of 196.350 is already the sixth-highest in program history with four weeks to go before the final rankings of the regular season.
On all four events, DU is ranked inside the top 20, beginning with No. 6 on vault (49.175), which matches the highest Denver has been ranked on the event in RQS rankings, set during Week 10 last season.
Denver is also in the top 10 on floor, holding the No. 10 spot (49.230). For the second time this season, DU is ranked on all four events with No. 12 on beam (49.105) and tied for No. 20 on bars (48.995).
Sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) leads the Pioneers in the individual rankings, holding a spot on all four events plus the all-around. She is tied for No. 6 in the all-around (39.535), tied for No. 10 on floor (9.905), tied for No. 12 on vault (9.890), No. 16 on bars (9.895) and tied for No. 20 on beam (9.885).
This is the first time that a DU gymnast has held rankings on all five individual events since Jessica Lopez during Week 11 in 2009.
Junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) continues to be ranked on beam, tied for No. 12 (9.895) this week.
Senior Nikole Addison (Fort Myers, Fla.) returns to the national rankings, moving into a tie for No. 16 on floor (9.890).
DU hosts its final home meet of the season on Monday, March 5, welcoming Southern Utah for Senior Night and Fan Appreciation Night at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium. The Pioneers’ score from the March 5 meet will not be included in next Monday’s rankings but will be factored in for the week of March 12.
