DENVER - The No. 9-ranked University of Denver women's gymnastics team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., as a No. 2 seed for NCAA Regionals on Saturday, April 1, the NCAA announced during Monday's selection show. Joining Denver will be No. 4 Utah, No. 16 California, No. 21 Auburn, host Arkansas and Central Michigan.
The will be Denver's 19th consecutive appearance at NCAA Regionals, doing so in each of head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart's seasons with the team. DU will seek a berth to the NCAA National Championships as a team for the fourth time in program history and the first since the 2008 season.
DU enters Regionals ranked No. 9 in the nation--the first time the program has ever been in the top 10 nationally going into Regionals. The team also set a program record for highest Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) at 197.040.
In 2016, the Pioneers competed at the Minneapolis Regional, finishing fourth with a 195.700. After finishing second in the all-around, then-senior Nina McGee advanced to the national championships where she would win DU Gymnastics' first-ever NCAA individual national title, doing so on floor.
The 2017 NCAA National Championships will be held April 14-15 at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. The top two finishing teams at each of the six NCAA Regionals competitions will advance to Nationals, as well as the event winners and the top two all-around competitors not on a qualifying team.
