Denver Ranked No. 13 Ahead of NCAA Regionals

March 26, 2018

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team retained its No. 13 spot in the Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday, the final national rankings before NCAA Regionals.

DU’s season-high road score of 197.075 at the Big 12 Championships increased the team’s Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) by more than a tenth to 196.785, which becomes the third-highest RQS in program history.

RQS is calculated with the team’s six highest scores of the season, at least three of which must be from away meets. The high score is eliminated, and the five remaining scores are averaged.

197.300 – Home
197.075 – Away
196.800 – Home
196.750 – Home
196.725 – Away
196.575 – Away
RQS: 196.785

This week marks the final event and individual rankings of the season—final team rankings will be released following NCAA Nationals—and Denver finished the season inside the top 15 on all four events including in the top 10 on two of them.

DU’s bars ranking of No. 6 (49.360 RQS) ties the program record, last achieved during Week 1 in 2010. The team’s previous record for final bars ranking was No. 8, achieved in 2017.

Denver also finishes in the top 10 on vault, holding the No. 10 spot with an RQS of 49.230. Rounding out DU’s final event rankings is a tie for No. 13 on beam (49.210) and a tie for No. 15 on floor (49.295).

Three Pioneers hold spots in the final individual rankings. Sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) becomes the first DU gymnast to finish the season nationally-ranked on all four events and the all-around. She finishes ranked No. 5 in the all-around (39.630), tied for No. 6 on vault (9.925), tied for No. 14 on beam (9.915), tied for No. 15 on bars (9.910) and tied for No. 17 on floor (9.915).

Junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) will finish tied for No. 10 nationally on beam (9.920).

Freshman Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.) is tied for No. 20 on bars (9.905).

Denver, which has advanced to NCAA Regionals for the 20th consecutive season, will learn its assignment during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 2 p.m. MT on NCAA.com.
