Denver Gymnastics Welcomes Two to the 2015-16 Roster
Claire Kern and Katilyn Schou signed their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday

DENVER - The University of Denver women's gymnastics team signed two student-athletes for the 2015-16 season, head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced Thursday. Claire Kern (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Kaitlyn Schou (Clermont, Fla.) signed their National Letters of Intent during early signing on Wednesday, November 12.
"We're so excited to have Claire and Kaitlyn become a part of our family," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "They are incredibly talented--both athletically and academically--and are a perfect fit to our culture."
Kern is a Level 10 gymnast from Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, N.C. She finished second on vault and uneven bars, and ninth in the all-around, at the 2013 Region 8 Championships, and qualified to Junior Olympic Nationals twice (placing third on bars and sixth in the all-around in 2011, and ninth on vault in 2012). Kern was named the first alternate to the 2013 JO Nationals.
Schou is also a Level 10 gymnast from Brandy Johnson's Global Gymnastics Academy in Clermont, Fla. At the 2014 Region 8 Championships, she finished second on balance beam and floor exercise. She qualified for the JO Nationals twice, finishing fourth on beam and 16th in the all-around in 2012, and sixth in the all-around in 2013.
The Pioneers open their regular season on the road at North Carolina State on January 9 before hosting their home opener on January 17 against Utah State. The team's annual Crimson & Gold Intrasquad is set for December 13 in Hamilton Gymnasium and free of charge to all fans.
