DU Gymnastics to Host Free Crimson & Gold Intrasquad

Dec. 14, 2017

DENVER – The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team is set for its annual Crimson & Gold Intrasquad on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.

The Pioneers will simulate a competition with the team competing in front of judges on all four events. It will be fans’ first chance to see the 2018 team before the home opener slated for January 14.

Throughout the event, former assistant coach Carl Leland will lead “Gymnastics 101” in explaining what fans should look for on each apparatus. Leland will also ask fans trivia questions with the chance to win prizes.

Head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart will host a brief spirit clinic after the competition, and the evening will conclude with the chance for fans to meet the team and get autographs.

Denver enters the season ranked No. 8 in the preseason coaches’ poll, which is the highest preseason ranking in program history. The Pioneers are coming off a record-breaking 2017 season which saw them advance to the NCAA National Championships. The team finished last season ranked No. 9 in the nation—a program record for highest final national ranking.

Nine student-athletes from the 2017 team return in 2018 including sophomore All-American Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) and seniors Nikole Addison (Fort Myers, Fla.), Claire Hammen (Loveland, Colo.) and Leah Lomonte (Katy, Texas).
