Pioneers Receiving Votes in Cascade Women's Division I Media Poll

Jan. 30, 2018

DENVER— In a case of déjà vu, the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team was once again on the outside looking in when the Inside Lacrosse Cascade Women’s Division I Media Poll was released on Tuesday.

Much like the IWLCA Preseason Poll released yesterday, the Pioneers were receiving votes, Stony Brook was ranked second, although receiving three first-place votes and 410 points in this poll, while Florida was fifth at 345 points. Colorado was the only other ranked opponent on DU’s schedule, coming in at 16.

However, unlike in the IWLCA poll, the poll only ranks the top 20 teams, so there were several teams receiving votes. Virginia Tech, Louisville and Stanford were receiving votes, making six opponents on the Crimson and Gold’s schedule that were either ranked or receiving votes.

Last season, the Pioneers started the season receiving votes, but quickly worked their way into the rankings at 19 after getting out to a 3-0 start with wins over San Diego State (15-10), California (15-5) and [12/12] Stanford (10-7). DU moved as high as 13 on four separate weeks in 2017.

Denver opens the season at home on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. against Stanford at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.  Admission is free.
