Denver Duo Claims BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK (DU/BIG EAST) - For the third time in 2017, the [13/13] University of Denver women's lacrosse program had a pair of prolific student-athletes recognized by the BIG EAST for their outstanding performances on the field.

Sophomores Kendra Lanuza and Elizabeth Behrins paced the Pioneers to a 16-11 win over Connecticut on Sunday in a game that saw the duet post career performances in the process. This is the second weekly award for both players as Lanuza took Midfielder of the Week on Feb. 14 following Denver's 3-0 start, while Behrins grabbed the same nod the following week on Feb. 21 for her game-winner over 18/RV Louisville in triple overtime.

BIG EAST Attacker Of The Week

Kendra Lanuza, Denver, So., A

The Denver sophomore tied her career best with seven points on three goals and four assists, recording her fourth hat trick of the season, along with two caused turnovers and two ground balls in the Pioneers’ win over Connecticut on Sunday. Two of Lanuza’s helpers came during a game-changing 8-1 Denver run, while she added four second-half points to keep the Huskies at bay.

BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week

Elizabeth Behrins, Denver, So., M/A

Behrins notched the first sock trick of her career while setting career highs in goals (7) and points (8) against Connecticut, becoming the first Pioneer in six years to record seven goals in a game. She added two ground balls and a caused turnover against the Huskies.

BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week

Maryn Lowell, Temple, Fr., GK

Tied her career high with 11 saves in the Owls' 11-9 win at Georgetown. The rookie made the 11th save on the Hoyas' final possession of the game to keep them from getting the go-ahead goal with a 9-9 tie. Lowell made six saves in the first half, allowing just three goals.  She also recorded one ground ball.



BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week

Monica Borzillo, Cincinnati, Fr., A

Borzillo led the Bearcats to their first BIG EAST win of the season with 10 points off four goals and six assists. She added two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers in Cincinnati’s victory over Butler. The 10 points are a program single-game record while the six dishes matches her own single-game mark. This is Borzillo’s fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week certificate.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Lindsey Ronbeck, Florida, So., A

In a 1-1 week, Ronbeck totaled seven points off six goals and an assist, including a four-goal effort against No. 1 Maryland. She added two goals, a dish and two ground balls in a BIG EAST win over Vanderbilt.

Brenda McDermott, Temple, Sr., A

McDermott totaled six points off three goals and three assists in Saturday’s win at Georgetown.

Amanda Bochniak, Marquette, Sr., A

Bochniak sparked the Golden Eagles’ offense in a 20-6 win over Villanova on Saturday with six points, burying all three shots she took, while adding two ground balls and a caused turnover.
