IWLCA Release

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The season may be done but a prominent pair of Pioneers on the Denver women’s lacrosse team continue to gain accolades for their electrifying performances on the field during the 2017 campaign. Senior Layne Voorhees (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore Kendra Lanuza (Littleton, Colo.) both claimed a spot on the IWLCA All-Region teams in a release by the coaches association on Friday.

Voorhees finishes her career as a member of the First Team All-West/Midwest Region, while Lanuza follows up her second campaign in the Mile High City with a spot on the Second Team All-West/Midwest Region.

The duo helped spearhead a complete team look during the season as Voorhees anchored the defense that was ranked fifth in goals allowed average heading into the BIG EAST Tournament at 7.88 per game. The senior captain also led the conference in caused turnovers (42) and caused turnovers per game (2.33) following the tournament and was a unanimous selection to the First Team All-BIG EAST.

Lanuza, meanwhile, led the BIG EAST in assists (37) and assists per game (2.31) heading into postseason play and ended the season with 70 points behind an additional 33 goals. The Chatfield H.S. product was the driver on the offensive half as she helped lead DU to a 14-4 record in its first year in the new conference en route to her unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST first team.

Following the announcement, members of the All-Region teams are now eligible for the IWLCA All-American teams. The coaches’ association will announce the teams on Wednesday, May 17.
