DENVER – Rounding out her coaching staff in preparation for the 2017 season, University of Denver women’s lacrosse head coach Liza Kelly announced the addition of Mallory Poole as the new Director of Women’s Lacrosse Operations.

“Mallory is a great addition to the DU women’s lacrosse staff,” Kelly said. “She is passionate about the sport of lacrosse and what we are building at Denver.

“She has worked in a number of different athletic departments and we hope to draw from her vast experiences to enhance our program.”

Poole will join the staff immediately with the fall season just over the horizon.

“I would like to thank Liza, along with the rest of the staff, for welcoming me to the Denver lacrosse family,” Poole said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to draw from the experience I have gained over the past eight years in the field to contribute to the foundation of success laid by the program’s staff and these remarkable young women.”

Poole spent the last two years at Virginia Tech, where she was the defensive and recruiting coordinator for the Hokies. Before that, Poole was the head coach for Bloomsburg University and led the Huskies to a 19-16 overall mark, 14-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, totaling eight players named to the All-PSAC teams, one PSAC Champion Scholar and one player named to the IWLCA All-Region team.

Prior to her time at Bloomsburg, Poole served three years as an assistant coach at the Stevens Institute of Technology and one year as an assistant coach at Dartmouth College.

Poole, who was a member of the United States Women’s Lacrosse Program from 2007 to 2011, helped Stevens Institute to a 43-14 record, two Empire 8 Conference championships and two NCAA second-round playoff appearances. She also helped coach three IWLCA All-Americans and the 2012 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year.

While at Dartmouth, Poole helped lead the Big Green to an overall mark of 8-8 and 5-2 in the Ivy League. She guided five All-Ivy selections on the field in addition to organizing team travel, fundraising, game day operations, clinics, scouting and recruiting.

As a student-athlete, Poole had a decorated career at LIU-Post, where she earned countless honors while helping the Pioneers to three-straight NCAA Tournaments and a National Championship in 2007.

Poole was a four-time IWLCA All-American and was named to the NCAA Division II All-Tournament Team three times. She earned MVP honors and was also featured in the Sports Illustrated prestigious Faces in the Crowd section in 2007.

As a senior, Poole was a Tewaaraton Award nominee for the nation's top player and the IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was also the East Coast Conference Player of the Year and the Inside Lacrosse and WomensLacrosse.com Midfielder of the Year.

DU will open the fall season with its Crimson and Gold scrimmage on October 1 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, starting at 12 p.m. MT.
